A business trip does not always end after the final meeting. More travelers now extend their stay to explore the destination. Some add a weekend after attending a conference. Others arrive earlier or travel with their partner or family.

This blended form of travel is known as Bleisure Travel. The term combines the words business and leisure. Therefore, it describes a trip that blends professional commitments with personal time. This trend is becoming increasingly important for the hospitality industry. It creates longer stays, different guest needs and new opportunities for direct bookings.

What Is Bleisure Travel?

Bleisure Travel usually begins with a professional commitment. This could involve a meeting, conference, trade fair or corporate training event. The traveler then adds personal days before or after the business part of the trip. This approach allows them to explore the destination without planning a completely separate journey. For example, a professional may travel to Athens for a meeting on Friday. They can then remain in the city until Sunday. Similarly, a conference attendee may combine the trip with a short escape to a nearby destination. In other cases, a partner, friend or family member may join them. Bleisure Travel is not exactly the same as a workation. During a workation, a leisure trip includes remote working. With bleisure, professional travel usually provides the starting point.

Why Is Bleisure Travel Growing?

The rise of this trend does not result from a single factor. It reflects greater workplace flexibility and a changing approach to business travel. According to Expedia Group’s Traveler Value Index 2025, 42% of respondents planned to take a bleisure trip. The equivalent figure in the 2023 survey was 29%. This comparison shows that the travel trend is gaining wider appeal. Research by American Express Global Business Travel recorded a similar picture. Nearly two in three business travelers in the United States and the United Kingdom had extended a work trip for leisure.

Flexibility Has Changed the Relationship Between Work and Travel

Remote and hybrid working have made everyday life more flexible for many professionals. Work is no longer always tied to a specific location. A traveler can complete their meetings and remain at the destination. They may also work for several hours before beginning the leisure part of the trip. However, greater flexibility does not remove professional requirements. A reliable internet connection and a suitable workspace remain essential. Therefore, business travelers carefully examine a property’s facilities before booking. They want to know whether they can work without interruptions or unnecessary difficulties.

Travelers Want to Make Better Use of Every Journey

A business trip requires time, planning and transportation. Adding a few leisure days allows travelers to make better use of that effort. Instead of returning immediately after a meeting, they can explore the surrounding area. At the same time, they avoid arranging a second trip to the same destination. This option becomes even more appealing when a business trip takes place close to the weekend. One or two additional nights can completely change the nature of the journey. For accommodation providers, this behavior can increase the average length of stay. It can also transform a corporate booking into a more complete hospitality experience.

Work-Life Balance Is Becoming More Important

Business travel can be tiring. It often involves limited free time, continuous meetings and changes to a traveler’s daily routine. Bleisure Travel gives travelers an opportunity to add time for rest and exploration. As a result, the journey is no longer associated exclusively with professional responsibilities. Businesses now recognize this trend as well. In a GBTA survey, 71% of travel buyers linked bleisure with increased employee satisfaction. Meanwhile, 68% recognized its benefits for work-life balance. Furthermore, 43% of corporate travel programs already had a clear policy for blended travel. This indicates that bleisure is gradually becoming an organized practice rather than an informal choice.

Business Travel Is Becoming a Social Experience

Bleisure does not always involve a traveler remaining alone at the destination. Many professionals invite their partner, a friend or a family member to join them. In a survey by Crowne Plaza and YouGov, 37% mentioned a specific reason for combining business and leisure. They wanted to spend more quality time with friends or relatives around their work commitments. However, the presence of a second guest changes the requirements of the booking. A room must support professional activities and provide a comfortable shared stay. At the same time, the accompanying guest may need suggestions for their free time. Therefore, information about local activities and transportation becomes more valuable.

What Does a Bleisure Traveler Look For?

A bleisure traveler moves between two different roles. At one moment, they need to remain productive and professional. A few hours later, they want to explore or relax. Therefore, they look for facilities and services that support both aspects of their stay:

  • reliable and fast Wi-Fi,
  • a comfortable workspace inside the room,
  • quiet shared areas,
  • flexible check-in and check-out,
  • breakfast hours that accommodate professional schedules,
  • easy access to transportation,
  • information about activities and dining options,
  • the ability to issue the necessary invoices and receipts.

These services do not need to be luxurious. However, they must be reliable and clearly presented before the booking. The phrase “free Wi-Fi” may not provide enough information. Guests want to know whether the connection supports video calls and everyday professional tasks.

Which Properties Can Attract Bleisure Travelers?

Bleisure Travel does not concern only large hotels near conference centers. It can create opportunities for different types of accommodation. Apartments often offer more space for working and longer stays. Small hotels can stand out through personalized service. Similarly, guesthouses and villas can attract professionals traveling with companions. Easy access and reliable digital infrastructure remain essential. Location is also important. However, a property does not always need to be in the main business district. It may be located near a railway station, airport or major road connection. At the same time, it can offer convenient access to attractions, restaurants and local activities.

Bleisure Travel in Greece: What Opportunities Does It Create?

In Greece, accommodation providers can benefit from Bleisure Travel in major cities and easily accessible destinations. A professional traveling to Athens or Thessaloniki can extend their stay over the weekend. Similarly, a business trip can include nearby cultural, culinary or outdoor experiences. For island and seasonal properties, reliable internet access and clear transportation information are essential. The same applies to services that remain available outside the peak season. This way, a property does not simply promote a room. Instead, it presents a complete experience that combines work and leisure.

The Booking Engine Plays an Important Role

A traveler may begin with a two-day corporate booking. They may later decide to add several personal nights. The Booking Engine should make this process simple. Prices and availability need to appear immediately, without unnecessary steps. Meanwhile, direct communication gives the property greater flexibility. It can suggest a different room type or offer better terms for extending the stay. A smooth booking experience is especially important for professionals. These travelers often have limited time to search and compare different options.

Effective Management Supports Longer Stays

Bleisure bookings may involve different requirements during the same stay. For example, the first few days may have a professional purpose. A companion may then join the traveler, or the terms of the stay may change. Furthermore, guests may require separate invoices for the business and leisure parts of their booking. A modern PMS helps accommodation providers maintain an organized overview. It brings together dates, charges, payments and individual guest requirements. Similarly, the Channel Manager updates availability across every sales channel. Therefore, properties can manage additional nights without inconsistencies.

A Growing Opportunity for Accommodation Providers

Bleisure Travel continues to grow because it reflects a changing relationship between work and personal time. Travelers want to make better use of every business journey. For accommodation providers, this audience can bring longer stays and greater demand for additional services. It can also create new opportunities for direct bookings. However, attracting bleisure travelers requires more than placing a desk inside the room. Properties need reliable connectivity, flexibility and clear information.

Price, location, and amenities remain key criteria when choosing accommodation. However, they are no longer the only ones. Travelers are paying closer attention to weather conditions and overcrowding. At the same time, many are seeking quieter periods and destinations with milder temperatures. These trends are influencing accommodation bookings in 2026. They also affect seasonality, cancellation policies, and how a stay is presented. Booking.com’s Travel & Sustainability Report 2026 captures this shift. The research surveyed 32,500 travelers across 35 markets, providing a global overview.

From environmental intention to travel decisions

Environmental awareness is no longer limited to recycling or reducing consumption. It is increasingly connected to when and where a trip takes place. According to the report, 85% consider traveling more sustainably important or very important. However, positive intentions do not always translate into action in the same way. For some travelers, responsible travel means consuming less energy. For others, it means choosing a different season or a less crowded destination. This shows that sustainability is not an isolated criterion. Instead, it influences several stages of travel planning.

Extreme weather is influencing travel planning

Weather has always played an important role in travel decisions. Today, however, extreme conditions are creating greater uncertainty. Seventy-four percent of respondents consider extreme weather risks when choosing their destination and travel dates. This factor now directly influences travel planning. This concern is not limited to the initial search. Almost one in three travelers changed or canceled travel plans during the previous 12 months. High temperatures, wildfires, storms, and floods were among the causes. At the same time, many believe that certain destinations have become too hot. This trend increases the need for clear booking terms. Guests want to know what they can change if an unexpected event occurs. A property can, therefore, offer different rate options. A lower, non-refundable rate can sit alongside a more flexible policy. Most importantly, the terms of each option should be presented clearly. Complicated wording can create uncertainty before a booking is completed.

Demand is shifting toward quieter travel periods

Destination choices are now also connected to avoiding overcrowding. Forty-three percent plan to avoid busy tourist destinations in 2026. Meanwhile, 42% intend to travel outside the peak season. In addition, one in four travelers is seeking destinations with cooler temperatures. These findings show that the timing of a trip is becoming increasingly important. Travelers are looking for comfort, tranquility, and better conditions for exploring a destination. For a seasonal property, this trend offers a different way to present the guest experience. However, a lower price is not enough on its own. Guests need to know what they can experience at the destination. They also need accurate information about the services available during that period. Milder temperatures can make outdoor activities and sightseeing more enjoyable. Similarly, fewer crowds can provide a calmer travel experience. As a result, an off-peak stay is not presented merely as a more affordable option. It gains its own character and offers specific reasons to visit.

Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z travel differently

One of the report’s most interesting findings concerns the differences between generations. Younger travelers express stronger intentions to travel more sustainably. Older travelers, however, are more likely to adopt specific practices. The report divides respondents into four age groups. Gen Z includes travelers aged 18 to 28, while Millennials are between 29 and 44. Gen X includes travelers aged 45 to 60. Boomers are aged 61 and over. Among Gen Z, 75% want to travel more sustainably during the next 12 months. Millennials follow at 71%, while the figure for Gen X is 60%. Among Boomers, it stands at 47%. The order changes when the timing of travel is considered. Sixty-three percent of Boomers plan to travel outside the peak season. The corresponding figure is 48% for Gen X and 41% for Millennials. Among Gen Z, it falls to 36%. Boomers are also more likely to say they will reduce waste and energy consumption. In addition, they are more likely to plan purchases from local businesses. In contrast, Gen Z and Millennials lead in other areas. They participate more frequently in activities connected to local culture and nature conservation. The findings show that each generation understands responsible travel differently. Therefore, the same message may not appeal equally to every audience. A property can highlight the tranquility of the low season to older travelers. At the same time, it can showcase local experiences and activities to younger audiences.

Why intention does not always lead to a booking

Despite strong interest, many travelers struggle to find the right option. The search can require time, comparison, and additional research. Forty-two percent believe that finding more sustainable options requires too much time and effort. Cost represents the second most significant barrier. At the same time, more than one in three travelers questions the credibility of sustainability labels and claims. They are not always convinced that an option is genuinely more sustainable. These findings highlight the importance of clear information. Guests should not have to search across different pages to find essential details. General statements offer little practical value. In contrast, specific practices and recognized certifications strengthen trust. The same principle applies to rates and policies. Terms should be easy to understand and visible before the booking is completed.

What travelers need before making a decision

The report also examines the incentives that could make sustainable choices easier. The responses relate mainly to cost and access to information. Forty-seven percent say that discounts and financial incentives would help. Meanwhile, 45% want practical advice on traveling more sustainably within a controlled budget. Clear communication is another key requirement. Forty-one percent want straightforward information when an option is more sustainable. Travelers do not necessarily need longer descriptions. They need information they can understand and use immediately. For example, an off-peak package should clearly present its price. It should also explain what is included and why it offers value. Similarly, an environmental initiative should be described in specific terms. This information should appear both on the website and throughout the booking process.

Certifications are influencing real bookings

Certifications help travelers identify a verified choice more easily. According to the report, 36% plan to choose certified accommodation in 2026. Actual booking data provides an even more compelling insight. In 2025, travelers booked 100 million room nights at certified properties through Booking.com. Certification does not replace cleanliness, comfort, or high-quality service. However, it can serve as an additional sign of credibility. It also helps guests compare options without carrying out extensive research. As a result, it reduces one of the main barriers identified in the report.

Accommodation bookings in 2026: What is changing in practice

Accommodation bookings in 2026 are taking shape within a more complex travel environment. Climate and overcrowding now influence both destination and timing choices. At the same time, each generation approaches responsible travel differently. Older travelers show greater consistency in practical choices. Younger travelers more frequently seek experiences with cultural and environmental value. For accommodation providers, accurate information is becoming essential. Rates, policies, and available options must be presented consistently. The choice of room now directly impacts the final booking. Guests compare options, amenities, and experiences before making a decision. At the same time, every property needs a proper presentation of its available room types. This increases direct bookings and improves the overall guest experience. Today, travelers are not just looking for a simple room. Instead, they demand comfort, functionality, and clear information before completing their booking. According to international hospitality market analyses, personalized experiences are increasingly influencing guest choices.

Why Room Types Play a Crucial Role

Many properties offer excellent services but fail to present their rooms effectively. However, guests want to know exactly what they are booking. That is why proper categorization builds greater trust.

Furthermore, each room type appeals to a different audience:

  • Couples have different needs compared to a family or a business traveler.
  • An accurate description helps the guest make a choice faster.
  • A clear presentation reduces pre-booking inquiries, meaning fewer messages and faster booking completions.

Standard Rooms: The Most Popular Choice

Standard rooms remain the most frequent choice across many properties, combining functionality, comfort, and an affordable price. While they cover the basic needs of most guests, even a simple room requires proper presentation. Photos, amenities, and descriptions significantly influence a traveler’s decision. For this reason, many properties are now investing in a more professional showcase. Guests pay close attention to:

  • Bed size
  • Natural light
  • Cleanliness
  • Modern amenities (such as fast Wi-Fi and a smart TV)

Superior and Deluxe Rooms for an Upgraded Experience

Travelers are increasingly seeking upgraded accommodation experiences, which is why superior and deluxe rooms are steadily gaining ground. Typically, these rooms offer more space, better views, or extra perks. At the same time, many properties add premium amenities and a more modern design. Properly presenting these options significantly increases the chances of a booking upgrade, allowing a property to boost its average revenue per guest. Additionally, travelers now want to see the differences between room categories clearly, making detailed descriptions incredibly helpful.

Family Rooms and Suites for Greater Needs

Families and groups look for comfort and practicality, driving higher demand for family rooms and suites. Many guests require extra beds, separate spaces, and greater convenience during their stay.

  • Families look into whether the room features a kitchenette or extra storage space.
  • Suites offer a more premium experience and greater privacy, which properties use to attract higher-budget travelers.

Since guests are heavily influenced by photos and videos of the spaces, visual presentation plays a decisive role here.

Travelers Now Seek a Personalized Experience

The global hospitality market is shifting heavily toward personalization. Guests want experiences tailored to their specific needs. To meet this demand, properties require flexible room type management and proper display on their website. At the same time, guests expect instant updates on availability and amenities. Proper categorization also facilitates online bookings; when travelers find what they want quickly, they complete the booking more easily. Furthermore, clear information reduces errors and cancellations, improving the hospitality experience as a whole.

Proper Room Presentation Boosts Direct Bookings

Nowadays, a beautiful room alone is not enough. Guests want transparent information, a modern presentation, and an easy booking process. Consequently, properties are investing more and more in booking engines and proper online visibility. At the same time, the right management of room types significantly benefits the conversion rate. An organized website allows the guest to easily compare options and amenities, increasing the chances of a direct booking without intermediaries.

Technology is Changing How Rooms are Selected

Modern travelers compare everything online before traveling, reviewing photos, testimonials, amenities, and stay details within minutes. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence and new technologies are increasingly shaping how people search for accommodation. Guests are already using AI tools to plan trips and bookings. Because of this, every property needs a solid content structure and a professional room presentation across all devices.

The Right Room Can Bring More Bookings

Room types are not just a technical categorization; instead, they serve as a powerful sales tool for any property. An accurate description, professional photography, and a seamless booking process heavily influence the guest, helping a property stand out from the competition. At BookOnCloud, we help properties organize their online bookings better. At the same time, we offer solutions that improve the guest experience and increase direct bookings.
